The Tigray Disaster Relief Fund (TDRF) is proud to announce a new partnership, including an $11,500 USD grant awarded to the Feleg School Cooperative in Mekelle, Tigray, Ethiopia. The funding provides essential teaching and learning materials for 480 students in the Mizer, 70 Kare area, ensuring access to high-quality educational resources. This partnership is made possible through the generosity of Giving Tuesday supporters, who helped us raise $10,755, alongside the continued support of TDRF’s monthly donors.
The Feleg Community School was established in late 2024 by local residents who recognized a critical lack of educational facilities for low-income households following the war. TDRF is inspired by this grassroots initiative, where community members took action to fill a critical gap. This volunteer-led model, governed by a General Assembly and a 7-member volunteer board, highlights the community-driven resilience that TDRF seeks to champion and empower.
The grant will be utilized to procure a wide range of essential supplies for the school. These include electronics such as computers and printers, classroom furniture like desks and chairs, textbooks, and sanitation supplies, which will help to create a healthy learning environment for students. By providing these resources, the project aims to improve student performance within the first academic year and expand equitable access to high quality education.
This partnership reflects TDRF’s broader strategy to support sustainable, community-led projects that address structural inequalities and provide integrated support for children and the wider community in high-poverty areas.
The Tigray Disaster Relief Fund (TDRF) is a US-based humanitarian organization devoted to providing urgent humanitarian relief and development assistance to the people of Tigray.
